Tutorial Treasury 05In the Tutorial Treasury, you will find tutorials geared towards Photomanipulators and some that will deal with a broader subjects, such as lighting, colour etc. The tutorials will be from dA as well as from all over the web and in each episode, there will be 3 to 6 tutorials for your reading pleasure (any more than that I guess no one will have time to read anyway). If you find any good ones, shoot me a note so I can include them in the next installment!
"Learn how to create this cinematic scene in quick and easy steps! This Photoshop tutorial will show you how to blend images to create an apocalyptic scene and add flying meteors with premade Photoshop brushes. You’ll also learn several different ways to add lighting effects and create a strong atmosphere. ~ written by Jarka Hrnčárková ~"
Best of #Photomanipulated NovemberAnd again a feature that needs the preface "better late than never" I hope things will slow down a bit after Christmas.

#Photomanipulated Best of Jan. FeaturesFinally back (not just physically, but mentally, too) from my business trips (I will get to an extra journal for that, but first the features) - I hope you'll excuse my tardiness once again.
The features below are the Best of January 2013 manips from the submissions at Photomanipulated
Manip Challenges #001If you've been on dA for a while, you may remember the manip challenges I used to run. The original manip challenges were chat based 2 hour challenges, but as I don't have that kind of time any more (the event would be all day long, with 3 to 5 challenges in succession), I decided to adapt them to be two weeks long and not in a chatroom instead.
Wow! What a response! We're through the first week (still one to go!) of the challenge and already there are over 20 entries! Thank you so much for making this site & this group fun
You are given 8 stock images (see below) of which you have to use at least TWO in a way that we don't have to go hunting for them with a looking glass. You can use additional stock, but I ask you not to use premades - this is a challenge for your skills, not for someone else's.Your entry has to be a photomanipulation or a digital mixed media piece with a good deal of photomanipulation in it.Pl
My Apologies + FeaturesFirst off, I wanted to apologize for neglecting Photomanipulated for the last few weeks. I was highly frustrated with everything and ready for a holiday that everything seemed a chore. So I removed myself for a while, then I went on holidays and now I'm back in action, finally!
For all those of you who like our Manip Challenges, there will be a new installment in the coming days
But now, on to our features for September, all of these are from Photomanipulated

The Reason......why so many CVs burn out after the shortest time are people like those that have surfaced on Aeirmid's latest journal.
Those that think, CV-ing is a "job" and that the CVs have to do just about everything from setting a DD every day to holding contests. Don't forget to write tutorials or at the very least guiding news articles at least every second day. And don't you dare miss one tiny subgallery or trend while doing all that. Oh and the DD suggestions that you do get, do tell each and every single suggestor why their suggestion wasn't used - and don't you dare say "because I don't think it's well enough blended" because hey, it sure as hell has an awesome idea behind it and maybe the deviant has some sort of disease/disability/misfortune/etc and just needs a DD to get a better life.
Wake up! It's YOUR community. A community by definition consists of different people with one common interest - in the case of web communi
Out with the old...My second term as photomanips community volunteer (CV) has ended. How a year and a bit can fly by so fast?! But it was fun, and I was very touched by all the positive feedback I got when my hat went and the tick came. A special thanks goes out to Aeirmid who will now be sailing this ship -- but hopefully not alone! I hope she'll have you - the photomanip community - to help her!
And that brings me neatly to something I've been meaning to express for a while:
The CV is NOT the be-all and end-all of the community! (S)he may be a lynchpin, an integral part, the person with the symbol that people will look upon for guidance, motivation and their DD choices. BUT the CV is not the person who has to do everything by themselves cos it's "their job", because first of all, volunteering is volunteering. It is not a job and it should not be hard work, it should still be fun. And it should be a giving and receiving on both sides and to be quite honest, sometimes wearing the hat doesn't fe
PREMADES #Photomanipulated SubmissionRules CHANGE!First, let me clarify: I'm not just talking about premade backgrounds, but also about cut-out stock and brushes or anything else where people use images (their own or other people's) to create the resource. And while this is mainly geared toward members of Photomanipulated, I do hope that this journal will also be able to shed some light on things for others.
Personally, I've never been a fan of premade backgrounds, but I'm also not the type of person who thinks everyone else should do as I say just because I have a bad feeling about something. So far, that held true for premades: I steered clear of them because I feared copyright issues, but I didn't have much more than a bad feeling and some research on my part to confirm this. Now, an official dA blog has strengthened my believe that as an artist, using premades will do you more harm than good.
Copyright is something that often falls by the wayside with premades. And if it turns out the image

XilaPhoenixArt: How do you deal with stress situations?
Depends on the situation I guess. If it's meeting a deadline at work, I have found that panic solves nothing. It will rather keep you from doing your work properly and you'll end up fixing things right and left later. So, try to keep calm and do one thing at a time. If you're afraid you might forget something, make a list and start with whatever is most important. Everything else will have to wait and the world will not fall to pieces if you're a day late (once).
If the situation is having to do something that makes me nervous (like giving a presentation in front of lots of people or going s

Blending: Tips and TricksHello again
In conjunction with our blending article we interviewed several fellow photomanipulators to get you the scoop on some tips and tricks when it comes to blending. Thanks again to the amazing artists who agreed to the interview, we appreciate you sharing your knowledge! This was a 3 part interview series, if you're interested in the other two links are included at the bottom of this article
Q: What is your overall process for blending and integrating different elements/stocks into your works?
A: I usually start by looking for stock with similar light sources. Then I add a color balance adjustment and possibly a curve adjustment to to get the colors to blend in well. My final step would be using the the dodge tool to add extra lighting or use a clipping mask and paint it in.

Tips for creating dark art
Tips for creating dark art
I have heard many people's opinions about dark art. What defines it? What's it's main features? There is many who think they create dark art, but others who tell them THAT isn't what dark art is. But is that fair? Is it up to us to decide what dark art is OR is it something we need to feel. Something that comes to every human in need and offers a cold a dark reality of comfort. Here are the opinions of some dark artists...
"Go beyond the cliché and open your mind. People think creating something dark means you have to stick to cemeteries, goth chicks, and muted tones, which is false! Embrace colour in your dark work. Use your emotions and use your art to explore the darker side of your soul. I have found some of my darkest pieces came from me sitting outside in the sunshine and simply remembering something. Such as how the sun

Southern modernizationBlack comedy market economy, banana peel political humour, cards with the cartels, the solution free room service and credit the union. Bolivar twist, ding dong dollar under control, valley of the coin desert with no value. Gangsta paradise, the victims are the people. Big mac and cold conflict interference a part of it all. In little Mexico you’d need a high horse to jump the great border wall that boasts its peak.
Viracocha melts waters unlike those it rose from, making waves of out of metal oceans to overtake the current south, re-steel, re-take, tech-mechs the entire south into neo-Machu Picchu, cyberpunk music moulding, reshaping old society into an new age, iron dynasty, fresh coat for an old, ancient look. The coattails of Quetzalcoatl if he were a modern man pull together the merge of future and long passed past..techno temples and the like.
