The Woman in Limbo by kuschelirmel The Woman in Limbo by kuschelirmel
When they found her at a lake that didn’t even have a name because it was so far away from civilisation the air was cold. The mist almost froze on their heavy jackets, but this was not the only reason for the chill they felt. Even though they had seen their share of death in their time with the police, this one felt different. The body was almost completely submerged in the water. It was hard to tell how long it had been there because the water around her had frozen. It made them think of cryogenic tanks from science fiction movies, yet they knew she would not wake up once they thawed her. Despite the beauty of the crystalline ice, the body surely had not found peace in this grave. Giving her the peace she deserved was their task to fullfill.

I love to read crime novels and I love to watch tv shows and movies about that, too. I find it fascinating how these things are solved with so much logic and passion and sympathy. Every dead body that is found has their very own history and tragedy. They were alive with everything that that entails (families, lovers, pets, homes, work places,...) and then they are dead and everything is taken away brutally. It remains for the police to solve the murder and give the person their dignity back. At least that's what I feel they should do. Reality and fiction don't always match up, but I like to think that there are people out there working to find that story behind every dead person...

~~~
On the conceptual side of this piece, I wanted to show that even though the setting may be kinda beautiful in its own way, it is not beautiful to be dead. Even though the frozen state prevents the body from bloating up, she's still trapped under the surface. The crooked horizon is one symbol for this imbalance that exists when someone is robbed of their existance. The rather fuzzy background not only goes with the mist & the atmosphere that weighs the officers down, but it also signifies all the things they don't know yet. There are subtle text passages over the side and the top, but you cannot read them, because they are also to be discovered first. The title is a reference to her not being where she should be (not in peace but in limbo, between earth and the afterlife) and at the same time it's an episode title from one of my favourite crime series "Bones".
This is so beautiful. I agree with what you're saying as well: as time flies by many more folks are developing this sort of odd fasincation with death and dying, so much so that it's almost considered art.
Anyway, wonderful photo and description! I happen to be very fond of crime novels and shows as well. :)
I love that its somewhat blurred. Its somewhat saying that nobody truly knows what its like to be dead (as in where you go, what happens to your "soul" etc) except for the deceased themselves
Das ist echt ein tolles Bild!! Voll klasse :omfg:! Ich hab gesehen, dass du einige Bild dafür bei photocase gekauft hast. Lohnt sich so was eigentlich (ein Abo bei einer Pay-Seite)? Ist ja doch verhältnismäßig teuer...
I feel that this piece has a lot of symbolism (most of which you so gracefully explained in your description), and I believe that such depth adds more than one dimension to any piece of art.
The intent of the picture is most admireable, and it has been executed with such skill one can not help but to marvel over its many dimensions.
That you have added a layer of text above the poor woman's lost beauty adds to the atmosphere and helps keep the watcher intrigued. It is almost as if the world assist the revealers of the mysteries to accomplish the goal of their quest: it is like as if nature is presenting the unknown before its interpreters in the only way it knows how.
A thought-provoking piece indeed!
so, am I supposed to feel flattered that you really like this one - or feel insulted that you felt the need to tell me my other stuff is crap in your eyes?
in the future, if you can't keep it at saying you dislike something and feel the need to use the word "crap", it would be nice to hear what exactly makes you think so. I would've been interested in that had you not chosen your words so poorly. Here's a tutorial for proper critiquing [link] in case you are having trouble with the concept.
well, i was responding to the picture, not what the words are or what the title, told me to think. I read them after the fact. So i got a completely different feel than what the artist tried to push me towards. That is one of the dangers of artists trying to describe abstracts.
I got a more mystic, mysterious feel to the image, with serious questions of why the girl is upside down. Perhaps my color perception issues clouded the intended metaphor.
I still like the work. I still feel my tag line poem is applicable, but a different mirror of what it says.
I do not see color that well, so this one did not hit me for a very long time.
This work has such a wonderful feel to it.
My tag line poem might go well with it :)
That is a really amazing peice. Purgatory...
I heard of a story about how these police officers had to carry two badly decomposed bodies in sleeping bags through deep rainforest for 5 hours so that they could be buried. Police officers are so underated for their services.
