This started as me being in a bad mood on Wednesday. And how better to blow some steam off than to set something on fire?! Well, in this case it's a someone, and she seems immune to the flames. Might be her crown generating coolness or her posessing some kind of magic, but whatever it is, she's wearing the flames without getting burned. It's what I think I should do at work more often... or maybe I'm just overinterpreting and this is just some fun lighting practice. You decide ;)

What do you make of this?

I'm submitting this with critiques turned on because it took me waaaaay longer than I thought to get her arms and face approximately right. I think there's still things that are off, but I've stared at it for three evenings and I'm kinda happy now (if not completely) so I decided I'd ask you guys instead of going nuts over every individual stroke ^^; So fire away :D

Details:

Stock from ~La-Esmeralda-Stock (girl) as well as ~Ayelie-stock & ~Mind-Matter (fire) and my own background shot on holidays in Firenze 2009... I have so much stock unuploaded from that vacation it actuall makes me queesy --> my stock can be found on *kuschelirmel-stock but NOT HERE!

My art is not your stock! so hands off!

Hey Jasmin!

OK, so I drown 'em and you set 'em on fire. HA! :highfive:

Beautiful and very interesting piece. I mean 'interesting' in that I can stare at it for hours and still find unique little details and different ways the lights are playing on each other, etc. I love the way that the lighting effects on the background are subtle and that there is a gentle gradation between the reds and the blues. Most artists neglect things like that.... they overlap the two without consideration of how light naturally flows. The way you did it is much more realistic.

My monitor is not calibrated properly, I don't think, but I don't see any smoke. Should there be some? I do like the embers, but my thought is that there should be even just little wisps coming from the dress.

I'm not sure the contrasting blues work for me in this piece, but that is an issue of personal style more so than technical skill or impact, I think. But, the blue "cool" crown begs a "why?" I don't know if this makes any sense, but you could maybe have a bit of cooling light spilling downward protectively from it, the flames cooling at the top of her shoulder, or something, like it's doing on the top part of her face but maybe a little bit stronger. Or perhaps it has another purpose. :)

Really nice use of light and shadow on her skin, too. I think many of us would have tended to make it too light, but you've done nice work with remembering where the shadows would fall, even subtly.

Last critique is that the skin looks a little too smudged, but again that could just be my monitor. :)

Overall, a very elegant piece done masterfully with a lot of passion! This feedback is just the personal perspective of one person, but I do hope it is useful.

I adore the cool and warm tonal range through out this piece. The small sparks of fire carry the feeling of fire crackling throughout is a wonderful detail. I love the way the wall reflects the tones, and captures the lighting of cold and warm.
I think there should be however; more cool tones through out the top of her head reflected from the crown, as you have made those lights bright and vibrant as well as orange glows on the chin and back of hair.
Overall this is a gorgeous rich piece that is well done, with great technique!

The realism of your shadings make it hard not to be inspired, but your art is awesome on a whole :)
