Artist's Comments

The blue and the ice textures symbolize winter and coldness and the book is a way to make the cold go away... immerse yourself in a good story and forget the world around you.

Again, for the calendar that's going to be the Christmas present for my parents. Both of them love books - my mum even works in a library.

The whispy stuff was done using Apophysis fractals (it's a free program) - here you can read up on how I incorporate them into my work [link]
If you need some things to get you started, you can find the books, some fractals and some Photoshop brushes created from fractals at my stock account =kuschelirmel-stock
have fun!

Wow, sweetheart. The effect that you achieved here is really quite beautiful. I do love the cools of the sky.. and the way the crystal-type texture overlays it..

The use of the fractal for the wispy bits coming out of the book is a great idea! It works very well here!

Overall, the idea is easily understood, without the explanation, which makes this a success in my eyes.

Critiques? I'm not sure about the actual cloud image itself. For some reason it doesn't strike me as "cold" enough. The book has warm hues, and I like that this is also in the clouds, but perhaps only using the warms as a gentle touch to the clouds would be more effective?

I'm not quite sure, but I thought I'd mention it.

Makes me think, therefore I love it. Not alot of art I see makes me think about stuff. All my pictures are boring and technical.

 thank you dear

I wish you could see me beaming at your comment :giggle:

the colors were something I tried working on for quite some time: I had it blue on the outside and only the warm stuff on the "inside" of the book and where the butterflies are, but it looked fake (the reason is probably that the cloud texture goes over the book and if you make one part really blue and the other is left as is, you lose the connection between the book and the surroundings which makes it look pasted in) - my compromise was to adjust the hues a bit (yes, they were even warmer when I started out ^^;)
with manips it seems you can never have everything lol
